Kozhikode To Have Japan Aided Drinking Water Project

The Japan-aided drinking water project for Kozhikode will be ready for commissioning by April next year, District Collector C.A. Latha has said . The work on the project was expected to be completed by March, she said at a meeting of the district development committee (DDC) here on Saturday.
Nearly 13-lakh people residing in Kozhikode Corporation, Balussery, Nanmanda, Kakkoor, Kakkodi, Chelannur, Narikkuni, Kunnnamangalam, Kuruvattoor, Peruvayal, Perumanna, Kadalundi, Olavanna, and Thalakulathur grama panchayats would be beneficiaries of the scheme.
Project director and superintendent engineer of Kerala Water Authority K.G. Harshan told the meeting that nearly Rs.805.6 crore had been spent so far on the water project since it was launched in 2007.
When completed, it would pump into the water supply system nearly 174 million litres of water daily. This would be kept in 20 storage tanks. As many as 17 of these storage tanks were ready. Four more would be ready in four months.
