Kerala Govt Proposed Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Name For Technological University
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, who spent almost two decades in Kerala as a scientist with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will be honoured by the state government by naming its proposed technological university after him.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy proposed the idea in the assembly on Wednesday, considering the contributions of Kalam to the south Indian state.
Chandy said that Education Minister PK Abdu Rabb will introduce an official amendment to the Kerala Technological University Bill 2015 to name it after the former Indian president.
The exact name of the university will be decided only after checking the rules and regulations.
Kalam, the Missile Man of India, passed away on Monday, after he collapsed during a lecture at IIM Shillong.
His mortal remains have been flown from the Meghalaya capital to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu with stopovers in Guwahati and New Delhi.
A delegation from the state will attend the former president’s funeral in Rameswaram on Thursday.
