CRPF Force to Hold Down Secretariat siege by the LDF

Thiruvananthapuram
The State government has drafted 2,000 CRPF personnel and another 2,500 cops of the State armed battalions to tackle the indefinite day-night Secretariat siege by the LDF, starting Monday, with the resolve not “to let a fly enter the seat of power”.
Faced with the unprecedented precipitate action against the State administrative HQ, the government contemplated clamping prohibitory orders as the first batch of nearly 100,000 Left cadre ring the Secretariat for eight days in a row.
The LDF wants chief minister Oommen Chandy to order a judicial probe into the solar scam and keep off power till the probe is over.
LDF convener Vaikom Viswan told reporters that “the stir will not be akin to the notorious liberation struggle (against the EMS Ministry) and is not aimed at unseating the government. All gates of the Secretariat will be blocked to ensure that no one entered the office”.
The police has a tough task on hand on the eve of the Independence day celebrations at Central stadium adjacent to the Secretariat and the security alert on nationally important days.
The Government has received intelligence inputs that the LDF does not rule out violence, which might end up creating martyrs. The party leadership has advised cadres to come prepared for a long haul, according to police sources.
