Kerala HC Judge Criticized for slamming Chief Minister Oommen Chandy
Kerala High Court judge Justice Haroon Ul Rasheed was criticized by congress leaders as the judge spammed Kerala Chief Minister OOmmen Chandy over land grabbing case. The congress leaders said that the judge was biased and have wrote letter Chief Justice of India seeking punitive action against the judge.
The Youth Congress workers burned the judge’s effigy and led a protest march to his house at Kochi. However, Chandy and KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran washed their hands off the entire thing, saying the party had nothing to do with lambasting the judge. Congress leaders’ ire against the judge followed their fear that his criticism of the chief minister would be used by the Opposition in the ongoing electoral campaign.
Salim Raj is accused of having grabbed 12 acres of land from a family in Trivandrum using his clout in the revenue and police departments. A similar case is registered against Raj by another family in connection with land grabbing in Kochi. Raj got into trouble last year in an abduction case too when he and friends were arrested while allegedly trying to abduct a couple at Kozhikode. Three other members of the chief minister’s personal staff were suspended earlier after they were found to be involved in the sensational solar scam.
It was on account of the involvement of Chandy’s many staff members in various cases that the judge said that “authorities at the helm of affairs of the administration in the state have not been prudent and responsible in appointing personal staff with integrity and character. The CM’s office should be a model institution serving the people of the state.”
