“Let him come, we will show him,” that was Minister of State for Human Resources Development and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor challenging Narendra Modi on Monday amid reports that the Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s PM candidate might opt to contest from Thiruvananthapuram in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

“There were media reports that Modi might contest from Thiruvananthapuram. He wants to show that he can win from anywhere in India. Let him come. We will show him,” Tharoor, who made a surprise appearance at the Indian Union Muslim League’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency convention, said to cheers from IUML workers.

“What he did and didn’t do in 2002 we all know. Let Modi come to Kerala to see what India really is. How can he represent all of India, when he represents just one identity,” he asked.

Tharoor had come to meet state party president Sayyid Hyderali Shihab Thangal at the convention.

Thangal had left by then and Tharoor presented a memento to his younger brother Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal. Tharoor said that it was the IUML, and not the CPM, that was genuinely well organised and efficient.

Senior party leader E T Mohammed Basheer MP described Tharoor as the symbol of innocence in politics.
