The Opposition’s demand for the resignation of Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and state Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan continued over the weekend, with the duo facing more black-flag protests in different parts of the state.
The opposition has been protesting with black flags ever since the solar scam came to light, in which a company — Team Solar — headed by Biju Radhakrishnan, Sarita S Nair and actor Shalu Menon, was accused of defrauding several people to the tune of millions of rupees, with the promise of huge returns from their investments in solar panels and windmills.
The home minister faced a black-flag protest in his home district, Kottayam, over the weekend by the Democratic Youth Federation of India workers. The protesters were arrested.Meanwhile, Saritha S Nair, an accused in the solar scam, made a confidential statement before the additional chief judicial magistrate for economic offences at a court in Kochi on Saturday. It is speculated that Nair has named some top people, and that the contents of the statement will alter the course of the solar scam case.
