P Sathasivam Former Chief Justice of India Elected as Governor of Kerala
Central Govt declared the former Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam as the new Governor of the Kerala State. President Pranab Mukherjee issued orders on Wednesday to this effect. The home ministry had forwarded Sathasivam’s name to the President on Tuesday, officials said.
The Centre had gone ahead with the appointment despite strong criticism from the state government and the Congress leadership. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had said on Monday that the Centre had not consulted his government before taking the decision to appoint Sathasivam as governor.
Reacting to the appointment, Congress said the Modi government was a “government of U-turns”. Recalling BJP leaders Arun Jaitley and Nitin Gadkari’s 2012 comments against judges getting post-retirement jobs, Congress slammed the decision to give the gubernatorial post wondering if there was “anything in his persona, functioning or his decisions, which has really attracted very warmly, very positively, the acceptance of PM and BJP president”.
The Congress spokesperson also took a dig at Modi completing 100 days in government saying that prices had gone up despite BJP’s election slogans against price rise. Recalling Modi’s remarks on corruption “Nor will I eat or let others eat”, Oza quipped that the prime minister should now give out a list of items that people will not be allowed to eat because of high prices.
