Pinarayi Vijayan to Quit as Part Secretary in 2015
Pinarayi Vijayan Kerala state secretary of Communist Party of India has announced to quit the party secretary post during the party’s conference in February 2015.
Being the state secretary of CPI(M) for the last sixteen years, Vijayan faced several challenges like Lavalin case in which he was listed as an accused by the CBI and later exonerated by court. The factionalism ushered in the party by his colleague and opposition leader VS Achuthanandan has already damaged his reputation. The campaign by Achuthanandan was aimed at undermining his importance in the party and Vijayan had to literally strive hard to brush aside these allegations as Achuthanandan had a clean image among the people.
Talking about ambitions in Parliamentary politics after quitting as party secretary, he said, “As far as our party is concerned, it is the party who assigns the duty to be performed by its comrades. We have not yet discussed anything regarding the elections.”
On being asked who would succeed him, he replied that the party would choose the next party secretary unanimously without any disputes. “As far as CPI(M) is concerned, we take decisions by collective discussions.
