State Government Promises help for Kochi international cricket stadium
The State government will extend all help to the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) in its ambitious venture to construct an international cricket stadium in Kochi, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.
The Chief Minister was inaugurating the newly constructed KCA Indoor Cricket Complex at Thiruvalla on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Chandy said the National Games had provided a favourable ground for sports in Kerala.
He said the KCA indoor cricket complex was an ambitious project, which could help a lot in promoting professional cricket in Central Travancore. The Chief Minister inaugurated the cricket complex by defending a ball bowled by BCCI vice president T.C. Mathew on the occasion.
Need to be vigilant
Inaugurating the public meeting, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien said cricket had become a passion and organisations like KCA must be vigilant against its commercialisation.
Minister for Sports Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan inaugurated the indoor nets on the occasion.
Delsy Sam, municipal chairperson, presided over the function.
Anto Antony, MP; Mathew T. Thomas, MLA; Mr. Mathew; T.N. Ananthanarayanan, KCA secretary; Sunil Koshy George, KCA vice president; Jogi John, district secretary; and Sanju V. Samson, Indian cricket team member; also spoke. The KCA has constructed the Rs.2.5-crore indoor cricket complex with three indoor practice nets and three outdoor practice nets in its courtyard at the 50 cents of land provided by the municipality adjoining the Thiruvalla Public Stadium.
