KSEB Norms For Engineering and Management Students

The Kerala State Electricity Board has formed a set of guidelines for engineering and management students wishing to take up project works, or undergo industrial training, with the public utility service provider.
The guidelines were set since the students would have access to heavy duty electrical equipment at sub-stations that require careful handling. Additionally, the current higher intake of students, especially in urban areas, has been causing inconvenience to the staff, said Valsalakumari K, chief engineer (human resources management). The board, in view of these issues, has hiked the fee, besides limiting student intake.
A recent order has said that only those students whose projects are relevant or of importance to the KSEB, need to be allowed to conduct study. Power stations at Moolamattom and Moozhiyar, and the load dispatch centre at Kalamasserry, would be out of bounds for management students.
The revised guidelines have limited the number students to five in a batch, and they would be allowed a maximum of three months to complete their project work.
Currently, a minimum of 10 to 15 students are present at generating/sub-stations almost all days of the month. Moreover, since most students are interested in KSEB establishments in urban areas, it, too, has been causing difficulty to the board staff.
